Biography

  • 1928 born in Vienna/Austria
  • 1949 start of lengthy travels and developement of a particular style
  • 1952 first presentation in Vienna`s Art Club 1958 reading of "Verschimmelungsmanifest gegen den Rationalismus in der Architektur" on July 4th at Seckau Abbey
  • 1965 great success of a moving presentation in Stockholm/Sweden 1969 start of his work for the grafic "Good morning city", which took two year
  • 1975 settlement on "Bay of islands"/New Zealand
  • 1981 receiving of the "great Austrian Stateprice for Art"
  • 1984 laying of the foundation stone of the "Hundertwasserhouse
  • 1991 remodelling of the old Thonet factory to the museum Kunsthauses Wien
  • 2000 Hundertwasser dies on Saturday, February 19th, in the Pacific, on board of Queen Elizabeth II from a heart attack. According to his wish he is being buried in harmony with nature on his land in New Zealand, in the Garden of the Happy Deads, under a tulip tree.
